VANDALS DISRUPT WATER SUPPLY IN ZA

Acts of vandalism on the main pipe supplying water to the Zomba treatment site have caused almost the entire population of Zomba to have no access to piped water.

The vandalism happened on Friday night, and a visit to the site on Zomba Mountain revealed that the vandals stole anchors on twin pipes prompting one of the pipes to burst.

The burst pipe caused a huge gully from the site down to the old treatment site of the Southern Region Water Board.

Vandalised pipe

Minister of Water and Sanitation Abida Mia inspected the rehabilitation works on the pipe being championed by Malawi Defence Force soldiers.

The vandals have stolen pipe anchors on the twin pipes for a distance of more than half a kilometre, a development some residents believe is an act of sabotage.
