United Nations Development Programme-UNDP has declared its commitment to working together with the Malawi Police Service (MPS) to ensure enhanced public security and safety during the elections period this year.
UNDP Country Representative Fenella Frost made the remarks during the handover and signing of forensic and ICT equipment to MPS.
Frost urged various stakeholders and Malawian citizens to promote violence-free elections to ensure the efficient security and safety of the public.
Commissioner of Police responsible for research and planning, Dennis Chipao said MPS has implemented various strategies to curb political violence in this election season. He said the service has also implemented mapping for electoral violence hotspots which is essential in conducting surveillance.
Chipao has further commended the donation of the equipment, saying it will sustain the efficiency of police investigations and assist in curbing cyber-crimes.
