The Tobacco Commission (TC) has intensified preparations for the 2023/2024 tobacco season, as crop estimates survey enters second week.
Spokesperson for the commission Telephorus Chigwenembe says the three week long survey is aims at getting a clear picture of how much tobacco should be expected at the market this year.
Chigwenembe adds that they expect the crop estimates to be released two weeks after completion of the surveys.
“What should be understood is that in Malawi we conduct two or three crop estimates surveys in a farming season so currently what we are doing is to conduct the first round of these estimates surveys,” he said.
The first round of the survey started on 15 January and is expected to progress until next week.
Last year Malawi produced 120 million Kilograms of the leaf, realizing 282.6 million dollars.
