Four people have been arrested by Ndirande Police on suspicion that they were behind a robbery at Central Poultry Limited premises in Blantyre’s Makata industrial area.
Public Relations Officer for Ndirande Police Station, Maxwell Jailos, says the suspects, identified as Mussa Idi, Chiyembekezo Nkhutabasa, Grevazio Nkhutabasa, and Abel Ng’onga, stand accused of stealing property and cash totaling K8,502,966.
It is reported that last week on Sunday, the suspects raided the place, armed with panga knives, and assaulted a security guard and night shift workers, restraining them with ropes.
The suspects then ransacked one of the offices, making off with K6,738,966 in cash, four laptops, two desktops, three bales of mixed chicken portions, cellphones belonging to workers, and an electric kettle.
Police have since recovered most of the items.
“Police intensified investigations and managed to arrest four suspects connected to the case.
“…[the] police also managed to recover two laptops and desktop and in the course of investigation the police recovered some ESCOM items,” he said.
The suspects will soon appear before court to answer the charge of robbery.
