Malawi Defence Force (MDF) has bemoaned continued encroachment into its designated training areas.
101 Brigade Commander, Colonel Rhodrick Mbalakumwendo, made the remarks at Moyale Barracks in Mzuzu during an end-of-year Ball.
Mbalakumwendo said the malpractice is worsening due to some unpatriotic community members who aid and abet the encroachers.
“We are deeply saddened that a number of stakeholders, including the community, are aiding such activities and in the process threaten our staff, a thing we are not condoning this year,” he said.
Moyale Barracks Commanding Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Herbert Lemani, urged the soldiers to remain professional and apolitical.
“We are going towards the election period, we urge you to avoid being enticed with political favours but always uphold the core values of your professionalism including discipline,” Lemani said.
The Moyale Barracks end-of-year Ball was also attended by some civilians who included Mzuzu University Vice Chancellor, Professor Wells Singini, Mzuzu City Chief Executive Officer, Gomezgani Nyasulu and High Court Judge, Dingiswayo Madise.
