Six nabbed for mob justice in Mzimba

Police at Jenda in Mzimba District have apprehended six people on suspicion that they were involved in mob justice that led to the death of 28-year-old Chimbizgani Banda.

According to the Public Relations Officer for Jenda Police, Macfarlen Mseteka, the incident happened last Friday at Kaulira in the district, where Banda was allegedly caught stealing a bag of maize from the residence of Kelvin Munthali.

“It is believed that on the way to Police, Kelvin [Munthali] and others assaulted him [the deceased] severely such that police advised them to take the injured Banda to Jenda Rural Hospital, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival,” said Mseteka.

Jenda Police launched an investigation that led to the arrest of the six suspects on Saturday.

The suspects are Kelvin Munthali, 30, Yobe Munthali, 37, Chidano Emmanuel Munthali, 33, Madalitso Munthali, 28, Maola Joshua Munthali, 25, and Mavunika Simon Munthali, 34.

The suspects have been charged with murder and will appear before a court soon.

Meanwhile, Jenda Police has warned community members that it will bring to book all those involved in mob justice.
