The resumption of construction works for a modern road network in Lilongwe has sparked excitement among contractors and road users.
Our visit to various road construction sites reveals progress, with the Area 9 (Crossroads)-Kanengo 10 Kilometre stretch reaching 70 percent completion.
Works are also in progress on Mzimba Street from Kamuzu Central Hospital roundabout to Crossroads, Kenyatta six-lane and Crossroads to Kanengo dual carriageway, with the contractors actively engaged.
A Local contractor, Juma Ndaira Onani, a frequent user of the Crossroads to Kanengo stretch, said he is impressed with the works on the roads as they appear to be of high quality standards.
He believes that the road projects will facelift the capital city.
Wali Karim, a transporter from Lunzu in Blantyre, is of the view that the road infrastructure development in the capital Lilongwe and other cities in the country will help safeguard vehicles.
Roads Authority spokesperson Portia Kajanga said with the rains almost out of the way, the contractors will make sure the works are completed in time.
The government wants to give Lilongwe a facelift through road infrastructure and contracts for the road works were shared among various contractors, including Chinese Civils on the six lane Kenyatta Drive, Shadong Liquao group on the Crossroads to Kanengo dual carriageway and Mota-Engil on the Mzimba street.
