Vice President Dr Michael Usi has called on churches to pray for the country’s leadership, emphasising that it’s through wisdom that Malawi will develop.
Dr Usi made the remarks at the induction service of Reverend Robert Kanduya as the General Secretary of Zambezi Evangelical Church at Mitsidi Mission in Blantyre.
Dr Usi acknowledged the challenges Malawi has faced, including a dry spell, the COVID-19 pandemic, and Cyclone Freddy — which have all occurred since President Dr Lazarus Chakwera assumed office.
“The status quo is improving. The government has lined up a number of projects set to improve the livelihoods of Malawians. Additionally, the church should pray for the country’s leaders for God’s wisdom and guidance as the country is still recovering from some climatic shocks,” he added.
The newly inducted General Secretary, Reverend Robert Kanduya, thanked the Vice President for gracing the occasion and assured the congregation of his dedication to God’s work.
The Zambezi Evangelical Mission, established in Malawi in 1895 by Reverend Joseph Booth from Australia, has a membership of over 500,000 across the country.
