Dedza District Commissioner, Thomas Chigwenembe, believes more people in the district now do understand that National Identity Cards (IDs) are pivotal.
This comes as over the weekend, the National Registration Bureau (NRB) concluded a registration exercise of citizens and issuing of death certificates and Dedza is among districts that had huge patronage at registration centres.
Chigwenembe said this is a clear indication that people now understand the importance of IDs.
Group Village Headman Chinyamula of the district echoed similar sentiments despite noting some challenges.
“What we observed is that registration centres were far apart and citizens were moving long distances,” Chinyamula said.
Meanwhile, Ward Councillor for Katewe Ward, Isaac Ziyaya, tipped the NRB to note the challenges, which also included faulty equipment.
In August last year, the NRB launched a registration exercise for those that had not yet registered or renewed for IDs and death certificates.
