National Youth Council of Malawi (NYCOM) has bemoaned the low representation of youths in public and private formations in the country.
The organisation’s Board Chairperson, Duncan Chiyani, made these remarks in Lilongwe during the National Validation Meeting for NYCOM’s the 2024-2030 Strategic Plan.
The strategic plan seeks to create an enabling environment for all young people in order to develop their full potential to contribute effectively to National Development.
Chiyani said less than 10 percent of Malawi’s youth hold public and private sector positions, a development which he says hinders their engagement in decision-making across various sectors.
Youth Ambassador under Plan International Malawi, Maria Chavula, emphasised that youths must be involved in decision-making and hold leadership positions to effectively address issues affecting them.
