Malawi Electoral Commission’s (MEC)District Elections Officer for Nkhata Bay, Peter Mukhula, has disclosed that the MEC’s second phase of the supplementary registration exercise scheduled from Monday to Tuesday targets 5,120 people in Nkhata Bay.
Mukhula made the remarks on Saturday after the District Elections Supervisory Team (DEST) meeting aimed to update progress on the exercise’s preparation.
According to Mukhula, this exercise specifically targets individuals who registered with the National Registration Bureau between October 21st, 2024, and January 4th, 2025, but failed to register with MEC’s registration exercise.

“We are currently finalising the deployment of all necessary personnel to the designated centres,” he said.
One of the DEST members, Votie Mboweni, who is also the Director of Education and Sports, expressed optimism about the exercise.
“We have strategized our monitoring approach and have deployed all necessary vehicles,” said Mboweni.
He urged the public to observe time as the exercise will begin from 8:00am to 4:00 pm in all centres.
The supplementary voter registration exercise is one of the ongoing activities in preparation for the general elections, which MEC is set to hold on September 16th this year.
