Journalists urged to embrace social responsibility

Lilongwe Archdiocese of the Catholic Church has tipped journalists to be agents of hope in the communities they serve as they journey in the 2025 Jubilee Year.

The Archdiocese’s Communications Coordinator Father Lois Chikanya said this on Saturday during a retreat organised by the Association of Catholic Journalists (ACJ) Central Region Chapter ahead of the Jubilee of the World of Communications on Sunday.

Father Chikanya said journalism is an apostolate and that journalists should bring hope to the people through their work with impartiality and objectivity at heart.

ACJ Central Region Chairperson, Andrew Viano said the retreat has been an eye-opener to Catholic journalists on their role in the Jubilee Year 2025.

The Jubilee of the World of Communications is being observed from Friday, January 24, to Sunday, January 26, celebrating the role of communicators in spreading the word of hope.
