The National Initiative for Civic Education (NICE) Public Trust has embarked on a civic engagement initiative taking on board service providers and rights holders in Dedza.
The engagement aims to facilitate developmental initiatives and enhance citizen participation.
Speaking at an interface meeting with citizens at Chagunda Village, NICE Programme Officer, Daniel Malango, emphasised the importance of citizens working closely with their duty bearers, including Members of Parliament and councillors to address developmental gaps.
“Citizens must engage service providers to facilitate development,” he stressed.
Ward Councillor for Golomoti Ward, Greshom Dengu, acknowledged the developmental challenges facing the area and assured that he is working to address them.
Dengu stressed the impact of constituency demarcation on development and mentioned the ongoing construction of school infrastructure, launched by President Dr Lazarus Chakwera, in his ward.
NICE is implementing various interventions through its Boma Lathu Programme, funded by the European Union in Malawi, to promote civic engagement and development.
