The National Bank of Malawi (NBM) has donated K2 million to the Association of Business Journalists (ABJ) to support its 2024 Annual General Meeting in Mangochi.
The ABJ, which comprises 60 members, received the donation as part of the bank’s ongoing commitment to fostering quality business journalism in Malawi.
NBM Marketing and Corporate Affairs Manager, Akosa Hiwa, stated that the bank values the ABJ for its role in training business journalists who uphold integrity in disseminating business information.
“It is through business journalists that the public and policymakers have access to crucial information regarding the economy,” Hiwa said.
Aubrey Mchulu, an advisory board member of ABJ, expressed gratitude to the bank for its consistent support over the years.
“ABJ has fostered vibrant business journalism across all media houses, with member journalists horning analytical skills to their reporting,” Mchulu remarked.
NBM’s support of ABJ dates back to 2006 when the bank facilitated a trip for business journalists to South Africa, enabling them to observe the financial market and connect with their counterparts.
