Malawi hosts OFAB Africa Media Awards

Open Forum on Agricultural Biotechnology (OFAB) Africa, in partnership with the African Agricultural Technology Foundation (AATF), has held the 10th edition of the OFAB Africa Media Awards in Lilongwe.

This prestigious ceremony recognizes and rewards outstanding journalism that promotes accurate and balanced reporting on agricultural biotechnology innovation in Africa.

The awards ceremony brought together journalists, scientists, policymakers and stakeholders in the agricultural sector to celebrate a decade of excellence in agricultural biotechnology reporting.

“Malawi is honoured to host this landmark event, which underscores the importance of accurate and balanced reporting on agricultural biotechnology,” said Professor Elias Kaphesi, who was the guest of honour at the event. “We recognise the critical role that journalists play in shaping public perception and understanding of this vital technology.”

This year’s awards received a record number of entries from across the continent, with a panel of judges evaluating the submissions based on accuracy, balance and overall quality of reporting.

“The OFAB Africa Media Awards have become a benchmark for excellence in science journalism, and we are proud to have played a role in promoting accurate and balanced reporting on agricultural biotechnology in Africa,” said Dr. Margaret Karembu, Director of ISAAA AfriCentre and OFAB Africa Coordinator.

The winners of the 10th OFAB Africa Media Awards were announced in various categories, including print, electronic, and online media.

Chaltu Gololcha Miessa from Ethiopia won the OFAB Journalist of the Year award.
