Deputy Minister of Health Halima Daud has called for support from relevant stakeholders toward the expansion of water and sanitation facilities in the country.
The call was made after inspecting a borehole drilling and construction Project in Nkhatabay.
Daudi highlighted the need to have proper water facilities, especially in the rainy season to avoid waterborne diseases like cholera.
“We are calling on well-wishers to hold hands with the government in providing potable water points like boreholes to curb the occurrence of cholera,” said Daudi.
Senior Group Village Headman, Peter Chavula from Biya Village in Nkhata Bay, hailed the government and Global Fund for the borehole initiative saying his area had no potable water points.
The government with funding from the Global Fund is drilling and constructing boreholes in Mzimba, Nkhata Bay and Likoma districts.
