Malawi Defence Force Commander General Paul Verentino Phiri has stressed the importance of collaborative efforts to address issues of human trafficking and illegal migration in Malawi.
Speaking at a press briefing at Kamuzu Barracks in Lilongwe, General Paul Valentino Phiri disclosed that 237 illegal immigrants from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Ethiopia, and Pakistan are currently in the custody of the Malawi Defence Force.
Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Homeland Security, Steve Kayuni, said the ministry is committed to working in partnership with the judiciary, security agencies, and other relevant stakeholders to effectively tackle the challenges of human trafficking and illegal migration.
“Increasing cases of human trafficking and illegal migration are a threat to Malawi’s security, thus all security agencies and the community need to work together,” said Kayuni.
The joint efforts seek to strengthen border security and provide support to victims of trafficking and illegal migration.
