Maranatha Academy has honoured its promise by awarding the two brightest students who achieved the highest scores in the 2024 Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) examination.
The award ceremony took place in Mzuzu during the 2024 edition of MBC’s Zokonda Amayi Macheza. The top two students, Owen Jelasi and Hellen Thombozi, both studied at Maranatha Academy.
Each received K2 million in cash and an offer letter to pursue further studies at Sharda University in India. The First Lady, Madam Monica Chakwera, who was the guest of honour at the event, presented the prizes to the outstanding students.
In his remarks, Maranatha Academy Managing Director, Ernest Kaonga, reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to recognising academic excellence.
“This is not the first time we are awarding excellence. We have done this before and will continue to motivate students as we believe it encourages them to work harder and achieve the best results.
“Maranatha Academy is extremely proud to have produced the top two students in this year’s MSCE results,” said Kaonga.
Preceding the award ceremony, Maranatha Academy spoiled the two students by organising luncheons for them in various hotels and purchasing electronic devices, such as smartphones, as they prepare for university.
The two students also undertook a tour of Maranatha Academy campuses in the Southern and Central regions of the country, where they delivered motivational speeches to their fellow students.
Jelasi scooped eight points, while Thombozi bagged ten points, securing their places as the best-performing students nationwide.
