Man commits suicide over life challenges

A 32-year-old man, Kennedy Ngoma, has died after throwing himself in front of a moving truck at Jenda in Mzimba.

Jenda Police Spokesperson, Macfarlen Mseteka, said that the incident occurred at the Jenda-Lilongwe Depot while Ngoma’s relatives were escorting him to Madisi, where he was planning to relocate in search of better opportunities.

Mseteka said that while Ngoma’s relatives were waiting for a vehicle for him to board, the deceased suddenly threw himself in front of a moving 25-tonne Dongfen truck, driven by Asifu Malefula, and died on the spot.

According to the police spokesperson, Ngoma had been experiencing psychological challenges, frequently claiming that life was difficult. A pastor from his church had been praying with him due to concerns that he might take his own life.

However, police are continuing their investigation to confirm whether it was indeed a suicide, despite initial findings indicating so.

Kennedy Ngoma was from Kampeni Village, Traditional Authority Chakhaza, in Dowa District.
