Malawi’s first State of the Map conference calls for tech innovation

Innovators in the country have been urged to create technological innovations that can positively impact the nation.

The appeal was made at the first State of the Map conference at the Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (MUBAS).

Speaking at the closing of the two-day conference, Nancy Chitera, the Vice Chancellor of the Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences(MUBAS) said lack of professionals and expertise in the past limited the growth of the sector in the country.

“MUBAS now has academic programmes and research areas that we are doing in this field,” she said.

One of the Organisers for the conference, Patrick Ken Kalonde said the conference aims to provide a platform for players in the industry to share ideas and knowledge in pursuit of the Malawi 2063 agenda.

British Council Director, Vera Ng’oma said the problems in Malawi require collective effort.

The conference was held under the theme ‘reflecting on the growth of the geospatial industry in Malawi and the path towards sustainable development.’
