Six arrested for disruption at Immigration

Police have arrested six individuals in connection with the commotion at the Department of Immigration and Citizenship Services offices in Lilongwe on Thursday.

Public Relations Officer for the Department, Wellington Chiponde, told MBC Digital that some people disguising as passport applicants pelted the premises with stones and blocked roads leading to the offices.

Deputy Police Publicist for Central West Division, Foster Benjamin, said the Police is doing all it can to deal with all middlemen, commonly known as ‘dobadobas’ at the Immigration department.

He said those arrested have been charged for causing the disruption.

Immigration, which has faced operational issues in recent months, has recently increased its passport production from 700 to 1,000 passports per day.
