MALAWI OLYMPIC COMMITTEE USHERS IN NEW OFFICE BEARERS

The Malawi Olympic Committee has elected a new executive committee during its electoral conference held in Lilongwe on Saturday.

Incumbent president Jappie Mhango went unopposed to retain the seat while Francis Kakhuta Banda has been elected vice president, defeating outgoing general secretary John Kaputa by 36 votes to 10.

Henry Sakala, who was MOC’s treasurer general, has been elected general secretary after defeating Lusungu Banda by 38 votes to 8 while Dennis Kumwenda defeated Beatrice Makwenda by 32 to 14 votes in the vice general secretary’s contest.

Andrew Mkwezalamba is the committee’s new treasurer general going unopposed while Malawi Boxing Association President Pyson Likagwa and Volleyball Association President James Kaunda have been voted committee members, beating eight other aspirants.

The new committee will run the affairs of the organisation for the next four years.
