The Lilongwe Police have apprehended five individuals suspected of involvement in a robbery at Njewa. The incident involved the break-in of a warehouse and the theft of agricultural materials valued at K10.8 million.
Hastings Chigalu, spokesperson for the Lilongwe Police, stated that the crime occurred on February 13, 2024. The perpetrators reportedly assaulted and restrained security guards at the premises, which is owned by a businesswoman. They then transported the stolen items using a 15-ton lorry.
Chigalu revealed that upon apprehending the suspects, law enforcement recovered 12 bags of groundnuts out of the 78 bags originally stored in the warehouse. Investigations are currently ongoing to locate the remaining stolen items.
