Let’s promote expressive arts in schools – JICA

Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteers, operating under the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), have pledged continued support to enhance physical education in Malawi’s primary schools.

This has been said at the end of a sports festival known as ‘undo-kai’ held in Monkey Bay where learners from four primary schools within Monkey Bay teachers’ development centre participated and competed in four Japanese sporting games.

According to the Japan overseas cooperation volunteers, the sports festival was organised to enable learners to utilise their skills and knowledge in sports and learn different cultures of sports.

Minori Sato, one of the volunteers leading the initiative, noted, “There are units designed to use learners’ physical skills practically, but not all teachers find it easy to teach this content. The festival introduces Japanese sports as a new way to advance physical education.”

The event also marked the 70th anniversary of Japan’s official development cooperation, which aims to support growth in developing nations.
