Kamuzu Barracks Football Club were on Wednesday afternoon held to a 0-0 draw by Karonga United at Rumphi Stadium in a fiercely contested encounter, marking KB’s 10th draw of the season.
The result sees the soldiers move up a place and a point ahead of sixth-placed FCB Nyasa Big Bullets on the TNM Super League log table while Karonga United climbs to 11th with 20 points.
The game kicked off with Kamuzu Barracks dictating the tempo and creating early scoring opportunities, but Karonga United’s defence held strong.
KB’s Olson Kanjira came close to breaking the deadlock, hitting the crossbar in the first minute while Karonga United’s Blessings Mwalilino squandered a clear chance in the 34th minute.
Despite KB’s dominance in the first half, the score remained 0-0.
In the second half, Karonga United gained momentum, forcing Kamuzu Barracks’ goalkeeper, Hastings Banda, to make several crucial saves. However, despite both teams creating chances, the game ended goalless.
Both teams made multiple substitutions in the second half but neither side could find the back of the net. After 90 minutes, Samuel Gunda of Kamuzu Barracks, wearing jersey number 10, was named the man of the match.
Karonga United coach, Oscar Kaunda, acknowledged his team’s inconsistency and vowed to address the issues in training. Kamuzu Barracks coach, Charles Kamanga, described the match as tough, citing a lack of composure from his strikers in the box.
Notably absent from KB’s squad was their leading scorer, Zeliati Nkhoma, whom Kamanga dropped due to poor performance in training.
The TNM Super League action continues on Thursday with Mzuzu City Hammers facing Bangwe All Stars. On Friday, Civil Service United will take on Mighty Wanderers.
