The CAF Women’s Champions League COSAFA Qualifiers have kicked off at Mpira Stadium in Blantyre, with Zimbabwe’s Herentals Queens and Zambia’s Green Buffaloes securing victories in Group A.
Herentals Queens delivered a dominant performance, defeating Namibia’s FC Ongos 3-1.
Meanwhile, Green Buffaloes, featuring Malawian players Ireen Khumalo and Vanessa Chikupila, secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over South Africa’s University of the Western Cape.
Malawi’s representatives, Ascent Academy, the 2023 Goshen City National Women’s champions, are set to make their debut on Friday, 16 August 2024 against Young Buffaloes.
The match is scheduled for a 15:00 kick-off. Only the top team from the qualifiers will secure a spot in the continental finals.
However, COSAFA will have two clubs in the final eight-team event, as reigning champions Mamelodi Sundowns have already qualified.
