Govt receives K6.4 Billion in second phase of Fleming Fund

United Kingdom, through the Fleming Fund, has supported Malawi government with 3 million Pounds (approximately K6.4 billion) in order to tackle Antimicrobial Resistance challenge in the country.

British High Commissioner to Malawi, Fiona Ritchie, said Antimicrobial Resistance (where parasites,bacteria and viruses develop resistance to medical drugs) is a global challenge that affects 1.7 Million people annually hence the need for strong investment to deal with the problem.

Receiving the grant, Minister of Health, Khumbize Kandodo Chiponda, said the fund will help the government to ensure mainstreaming of Antimicrobial Resistance work and its sustainability.

In 2020, the UK government supported the government with £4.7 million in the first phase of Fleming Fund.
