Govt pledges commitment to ending hunger

Minister of Information and Digitalization, Moses Kunkuyu, has commended the people of Dedza for actively supporting government initiatives aimed at eradicating hunger in Malawi.

Kunkuyu, who also serves as the government spokesperson, made the remarks at Lobi branch of the National Economic Empowerment Fund (NEEF) in Dedza during the launch of the NEEF fertilizer loan disbursement program to farmer clubs in the district.

In his speech, Kunkuyu applauded the farmers for their dedication to revitalizing agriculture in Dedza, describing their efforts as vital to the nation’s development.

He urged them to maximize productivity in their fields to ensure hunger becomes a thing of the past. He also urged the farmers to repay the loans so that others benefit from the loans.

NEEF Board Chairperson, Jephter Mtema said the organisation will continue reaching out to all Malawians with various loans to deal with food insecurity.

He said the organisation has received K150 billion to benefit approximately 400,000 farmers from the farm inputs programme.

Mtema said currently the organization has already disbursed 48,000  bags of fertiliser.

Members of Parliament for Dedza South West and Dedza West Filipo Chinkhondo and Mike Mlombwa both urged the beneficiaries to make sure they service the loans.
