Deputy Minister of Health Halima Daud has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to reducing road accidents in Malawi by engaging all road users, particularly Kabaza operators, on the importance of adhering to road rules and regulations.
Speaking in Blantyre during celebrations marking the 10th anniversary of the Neurosurgery Department at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital (QECH), Daud highlighted that road accidents are becoming a significant source of patients requiring surgery, which is placing a substantial burden on the country’s health system.
She also encouraged medical professionals to conduct research into modern techniques to better assist patients in need of surgical procedures.
Head of the Neurosurgery Department at QECH, Dr Patrick Kamalo, said that they have performed 6,000 neurosurgeries over the past decade and are prepared to increase their capacity with the addition of new personnel and modern equipment.
