Minister of Agriculture Sam Kawale has assured tobacco farmers that the government will continue to ensure favourable market prices for their crop.
Kawale made the remarks during a tobacco field day event organised by the Agricultural Research and Extension Trust (ARET) at Senior Chief Chalooka in Ntchisi.
Kawale emphasised that over the past four years, tobacco farmers have been among the most satisfied in the country due to consistent pricing efforts.
“We have done a great job, and we have no intention of reverting to the challenges of the past. In the next two weeks, we will build on last year’s progress to ensure prices remain strong,” Kawale said.
Albert Changaya, Chief Executive Officer of ARET, advised farmers to prioritise using certified seeds to maintain high-quality tobacco production.
This year’s tobacco market is set to open in April at all Auction Floors across the country.
