Government installs new cargo X-ray machine at KIA

Government through the Department of Civil Aviation has installed a new X-ray machine at the Kamuzu International Airport (KIA) in Lilongwe to intensify security checks.

Mzondi Nyirenda, who represented the Director of the Department of Civil Aviation, said the government is determined to ensure the airport has good equipment and urged the operators to take good care of the equipment.

Director of Airport Security, Alex Simenti, reiterated that KIA Police is more determined to work professionally and that the equipment will help officers easily detect prohibited items such as explosives, weapons and drugs.

Airport Development Limited Chief Executive Officer, Victor Lungu, thanked the government for the donation and pledged to help train officers to be more professional in X-ray machine operations.

Chief Executive Officer of Air Cargo, Thoko Unyolo, expressed excitement, considering that the equipment will ease the job of screening cargo at KIA.
