Education experts have commended the government for its continued commitment and support towards increasing access to higher education.
This comes as more than 29,000 students who have applied for loans to the Higher Education Students Loans and Grants Board in the 2025-2026 academic year, are nearing its target of 33,000 beneficiaries.
The analysts highlighted the importance of the loan scheme in increasing access to higher education in both public and private higher learning institutions.
One of them, Victor Chikoti, commended the government for its continued support towards transforming access to higher education in the country.

Another one, Limbani Nsapato, lauded the government for the initiative, saying the high number of applications by students in higher learning institutions reflects growing confidence in the initiative.

Nsapato, however, said there is a need for the Higher Education Students’ Loans and Grants Board (HESLGB) to increase awareness of the initiative.
HESLGB Communications Manager, Millie Kasunda, confirmed that, with only a few days to go to the May 30th deadline, the board is overwhelmed with the response from the students.
Government announced that it has increased the number of beneficiaries for the students’ loan from 28000 to 33,000 for the 2025-2026 academic year.
