British High Commissioner to Malawi, Fiona Ritchie, has urged Malawians who have received the United Kingdom Government Scholarships to ensure they bring back the skills and knowledge they will acquire to build a better Malawi.
Richie said this in Lilongwe during a farewell ceremony for 27 Malawians selected to study for Masters’ and PhDs in various fields in the UK for a year.
The High Commissioner said it is encouraging to see the number of Malawians securing the scholarships rising, stressing this symbolises the strength of the UK-Malawi partnership.
One of the Awardees, Pauline Mbukwa, who will study Master of Science in Communication for Development, has applauded the British Government for the opportunity.
Mbukwa said together with the other awardees, they will ensure Malawi benefits from the skills they will acquire.
The UK government has been providing scholarships to many students globally for about 40 years.
