Ministry of Gender in partnership with development partners have conducted an outreach initiative at Kamuzu Central Hospital (KCH) in Lilongwe as part of preparations of the 2025 International Women’s Day celebrations on 8 March.
KCH Director General, Dr Enock Ludzu, highlighted challenges facing the hospital, including insufficient space to accommodate all mothers requiring Kangaroo Mother Care and lack of temperature regulation equipment such as heaters.
He has since appealed to individuals and organisations to support the facility in effectively managing maternal health and providing quality care.
Deputy Minister of Gender, Halima Daudi, emphasised the importance of managing maternal health in the country.
She assured that the government, together with development partners, remain committed to supporting and addressing the challenges faced by the facility.
UN representative in Malawi, Rebecca Ada Donto, said every woman deserves access to quality healthcare, regardless of her background or socioeconomic status.
Donto also reaffirmed the UN’s commitment to collaborating with the government and other stakeholders to strengthen the healthcare system in the country.
International women’s day is commemorated annually on March 08 to celebrate the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women.
