Residents of Ntema in Lunzu, Senior Chief Kapeni, have expressed relief following the Blantyre District Council’s decision to hand over the stalled Kadidi Clinic construction project to a contractor.
Originally launched in 2011, the project has seen little progress over the past 11 years due to a lack of funding.
But the Chairperson for Blantyre District Council, Elson Dumuka said they have sourced funds from GESD, which will see the project completed within six months.
Senior Chief Kapeni commended the council for the gesture, saying that once completed, the clinic will be serving over 65,000 people who were walking long distances to access health services.
Director of Health Services for Blantyre District Council, Dr Gift Kawalazira hailed GESD for rescuing the situation, pointing out that a healthy nation is crucial for the attainment of the country’s development blueprint.
GESD has pumped in K713 million for the clinic, which will be constructed by a local company, Nyalunganu Construction.
