Malawi National Football Team, the Flames, have got their first point and a first clean sheet in the 2025 Africa Cup Nations Qualifiers after a 0-0 draw against Burundi at Félix Houphouët-Boigny Stadium in Abidjan, Ivory Coast.
However, the result still leaves them bottom of Group L with a point, Burundi are third with 4 points while Senegal and Burkina Faso hold the first and second place both with 10 points but separated by goals.
Flames started the game with pressure but failed to convert their chances into goals. In the second half, Burundi came strong but, like Malawi, they too wasted their chances.
This was Flames’ interim technical panel’s first assignment, headed by Calisto Pasuwa assisted by Peter Mponda and Pritchard Mwansa.
On Tuesday, Malawi will face Burkina Faso at the Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe.
