The Economics Association of Malawi (ECAMA) is set to host its annual economic conference from 14 to 15 November 2024 in Mangochi.
According to ECAMA, the conference aims to provide a platform for in-depth, policy-relevant discussions on repositioning Malawi’s economic growth.
ECAMA says that participants at the conference will deliberate on three main sub-themes: Re-imagining Economic Growth, which will include examining the ATM (Agriculture, Tourism, and Mining) strategy as a potential new model for economic transformation.
“This sub-theme seeks to foster dialogue on strategies to alter Malawi’s economic trajectory for a better and more prosperous economy,” the concept note elaborates.
The second sub-theme is Climate Resilient Strategies, focusing on integrating climate considerations into macroeconomic models to ensure long-term resilience. The concept note highlights that “climate change management and resilience are fundamental to ensuring sustainable economic growth in the country.”
Participants at the conference will also discuss Investment Opportunities, with an emphasis on promoting responsible investments and encouraging tech entrepreneurship. ECAMA underscores the importance of building an economy driven by producers and entrepreneurs, not just traders.
This year’s conference, to be held under the theme “Economic Priorities for a Vulnerable Economy,” underscores the urgency of adaptive policies and robust economic frameworks to support Malawi’s development.
