Beneficiaries of Mtukula Pakhomo programme in Chitipa and Karonga districts are happy with the introduction of e-payments and mobile money for cash transfers, which they believe will enhance the security of their funds, especially from thieves and tricksters.
Some beneficiaries made the remarks during a visit by officials from the Ministry of Gender, Community Development and Social Welfare to assess the progress of the programme.
One of the beneficiaries, Lot Kita from Misuku in Chitipa, who has been part of the programme for several years, said his life has been transformed.
“Receiving these payments via phone will help us save money that we previously spent on transport. Now, we can use that money for other needs,” said Kita.
Another beneficiary, Tionge Mwandovie from Karonga, said it was challenging to reach the designated payment collection points as they were far away from their homes.
Ministry of Gender, Community Development, and Social Welfare Secretary Nwazi Mnthambala expressed joy that the programme is improving lives across the country.
Nearly 14,000 people are benefitting from the programme in Chitipa and Karonga districts.
