DNCC urged to promote exclusive breastfeeding

Chitipa District Council has called on the Chitipa District Nutrition Coordinating Committee (DNCC) to be change agents in advocating for exclusive breastfeeding in the district.

The Director of Planning and Development for Chitipa, Jossen Tembo, made this appeal on Friday during the opening of a one-day orientation session for DNCC members on the Exclusive Breastfeeding module, organised by Feed the Children.

Tembo emphasised the importance of breastfeeding, pointing out that it reduces stunting among children.

“On stunting, we are at 26.7 per cent, which is on the high side. In the next five years, we need to reduce stunting to single digits. Efforts to reduce stunting start with us all,” he said.

One of the Feed the Children officials in Chitipa District, Nathan Mvula said the orientation is a refresher to the DNCC members, so that the training to community structures is of good quality.

Feed the Children is implementing a five-year Akule ndi Thanzi project funded by the United States Agency for International Development.
