Coordination Union For The Rehabilitation of the Environment (CURE) has urged Village Natural Resources Management Committee members in Chiradzulu District to go the extra mile in making fire breaks to restore Chiradzulu Mountain Forest Reserve.
This came out during an exchange meeting held by CURE with people of Nkupu and Dokotala villages in Limbe, Blantyre.
Executive Director for CURE, Charles Nkoka, said the gathering has given them a chance to hear the challenges and successes of the project.
Village Headman Dokotala commended CURE for the engagement, saying the two villages share similar ideas on overcoming challenges in the restoration work.
Andrew Basikolo, a forestry officer from Chiradzulu hailed the organisation for complementing the government’s efforts in taking care of forests and the environment.
Chiradzulu Mountain is a tourist attraction site due to its prominent Hyena caves.
CURE is implementing the two-year restoration project with support from the International Climate Initiative.
