FDH Bank has increased its sponsorship of the Mayors’ Trophy from K60 million to K100 million.
The Bank’s Managing Director, Noel Mkulichi, says they arrived at the decision after observing a tremendous change in sports development through the tournament, which is also in line with their aim to transform the lives of youths.
Director of Sports in the Ministry of Sports, Mary Waya, hailed FDH’s partnership, saying it is developing athletes from the grassroots who might soon find their way into the national teams.
Lilongwe City Mayor, Richard Banda, acknowledged that the trophy has changed the landscape of sports in the country’s cities.
Zomba, Lilongwe, and Mzuzu have each received K17 million, a K7 million increase from the initial K10 million. The Intercity Mayors Trophy prize money has also been increased to K44 million from K25 million.
FDH Bank has been sponsoring the Mayors Trophy since 2018.
