Valentine Kaupa, Chief Executive Officer for the Salima – LIlongwe Water Project says accurate information is crucial in achieving the project’s goal of providing safe and reliable water to Lilongwe, Dowa and Salima districts.
Kaupa made the remarks on Thursday in Dowa during a session with communication experts from the Ministry of Information and Digitalisation aimed at developing messages that will help the population better understand the project.
He said some of the challenges the project has faced has been misinformation.
“In this project, communication is very key if the project is to succeed,” said Kaupa.
Amongst others, he said the project is also beneficial because it offers a long-term solution to water challenges in Lilongwe and surrounding districts and offers stronger resilience to effects of climate change.
Head of Media Research and Development Communication in the Ministry of Information, Wallace Chipeta, urged the team to develop messages which will answer all questions people may have towards the project.
“It is our responsibility to make sure we craft messages which will bring clarity and understanding,” he said.
The project aims at increasing potable water availability for Lilongwe, Dowa and Salima districts, and strengthen the capacity of Lilongwe Water Board to respond to adverse climatic conditions, benefiting close to 1.5 million people.
