Chitipa East legislator, Kezzie Msukwa, has urged the Ministry of Water and Sanitation to expand the Misuku Gravity Water Supply Scheme in Senior Chief Mwenemisuku’s area to combat waterborne diseases.
Msukwa made the appeal during a political rally held on Saturday at Misuku Primary School grounds.
He observed that the growing population and increasing urbanisation in Misuku have increased the risk of people relying on unprotected water sources, thus stressing the need for an expanded water supply system.
In response, Deputy Minister of Water and Sanitation, Liana Chapota Munthali, acknowledged the concerns, saying it is the ministry’s responsibility to provide clean water to all Malawians.
“President Dr Lazarus Chakwera’s vision is that no one should be left behind when it comes to access to clean water. We have taken note of this and will explore all possible means to ensure the people of Misuku receive clean water,” she said.
Munthali added that the ministry will also seek support from other donors to implement further development projects in the area.
