Chitipa District Council says 15 international motorbike racers will participate in this year’s Misuku Forests and Hills Motorbike racing competition, slated for October 26 this year in Chitipa District.
This is part of the district council’s reform agenda launched last year under the theme ‘Conserving natural forests to create wealth through tourism in hard-to-reach areas’.
Director of Planning and Development for Chitipa, Jossen Tembo, said preparations are underway and this year’s racing competition is funded by Motorhino Electric Motorcycles to the tune of K20 million for three years.
He said as one way of attracting more international competitors, the district council has attracted investors to construct an eco-tourism lodge at Misuku.
Barros Atupele Mweso, Country Director for Motorhino Electric Motorcycles, said his company has spread the word among Danish community that compete internationally in Dakar Rally, Scandinavian and Global Moto Cross Grand Prix to participate at the Misuku motorbike racing.
Last year, 34 local motorbike racers participated in the competition, covering the 48-Kilometre-hilly-terrain of Misuku from Mughese Forest through Sokola to Kalenge bridge winding roads of Chatu and Chisi up to the finishing line, Misuku Trading Centre. The majority reached the finishing line in under 55 minutes.
