Nkhata Bay District Commissioner, Rodgers Newa, has urged chiefs in the district to ensure that the houses being constructed for them by the government are located on neutral land to facilitate smooth transitions in the future.
Speaking during a full council meeting, Newa said the Ministry of Local Government, Unity and Culture is building chiefs’ houses across the country in phases and emphasised that the houses are not private properties but are meant to cater to the chieftaincy.
Senior Chief Fukamapiri commended the government for the programme and urged contractors to speed up construction works.
Among those in attendance were Member of Parliament of Nkhata-Bay West Constituency, Chrispin Mphande and legislator for Nkhata Bay North West Constituency, Julius Chione Mwase.
