Chief promises to sustain CSEPWP interventions

Group Village Headman Sitima of Zomba has vowed to continue implementing interventions under Climate Smart Enhanced Public Works Programe (CSPWP).

Among others, GVH Sitima said agricultural production has improved since people are able to harvest water which has also helped them prevent the washing away of soil and crops.

Under Climate Smart Enhanced Public Works Programme, members of the community in the area are implementing soils and water conservation activities.

The community is also undertaking forest activities where among others; they are doing forest regeneration management and establishing tree nurseries for their forest.

Kingsly Malishe, Chairperson of Thondwe Upper Catchment one of the Seventeen catchments implementing CSEPWP, concurred with the chief that community members have agreed to sustain all interventions under the programme.

Malishe said there the area has realized more benefits which is an encouragement to continue with the programme even after it ends.

Government of Malawi introduced CSEPWP as one of the social protection programmes aimed at building resilience and self-reliance among Malawian.
