Chakwera to attend 79th UNGA session

President Dr Lazarus Chakwera will leave the country on Wednesday to attend the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) at the UN Headquarters in New York, USA from 20 – 27th September, 2024, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed.

A statement from the Ministry states that Dr Chakwera will attend the Summit of the Future and the High-Level Meeting on the Miombo Forest Declaration and the High-Level Meeting on Antimicrobial Resistance.

He is also expected to deliver a National Statement during UNGA General Debate to mobilise global support for Malawi’s developmental priorities.

Dr Chakwera will also have discussions with other Heads of State and Government and other Business Executives to continue advancing Malawi’s diplomatic relations and economic partnerships towards implementation of the Agriculture, Tourism and Mining Strategy and the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals by 2030.
