President Dr Lazarus Cakwera has opened the K30 billion Phalombe District Hospital.
In his remarks, Dr Chakwera said the 250-bed facility is crucial in achieving universal access to health and a prosperous Malawi.
The construction works started in 2017, but the project stalled due to financial constraints and the government financed its completion in 2020 and 2021.
The Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa (BADEA) and the Saudi Fund for Development as well as the government of Malawi financed the project.
The facility has 300 health personnel with state-of-the-art facilities.
The hospital will serve over 450,000 people.
