President Dr Lazarus Chakwera says Malawi has felt solidarity from its neighbouring countries, especially when the county experienced challenges such as COVID-19, cyclones, Cholera and the recent death of former Vice President, late Dr Saulos Chilima.
President Chakwera said this in Lilongwe during a Holy mass marking the opening of the Sub-Region conference of catholic bishops from Malawi, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
President of the Episcopal Conference of Malawi, who is also the Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Lilongwe, Bishop Desmond Tambala, said the region is facing challenges such as increased poverty levels, lack of capacity and resources, circularism and environmental degradation.
Archbishop Tambala emphasized that countries and church need to come together and find solutions through platforms like the conference.
Among those attending the conference are Apostolic Nuncio to Malawi and Zambia and Zimbabwe’s Most Reverend Gian Luca Perici.
