Chakwera engages ministers on ATM Promotion Week

President Dr Lazarus Chakwera has engaged ministers of Agriculture, Tourism and Mining on the progress made in preparation of the ATM Promotion Week which will run from 19 to 27 April this year.

The government has organised the week to promote the sectors as part of its efforts to leverage opportunities which can help the country thrive economically.

According to Minister of Agriculture, Sam Kawale, this is an opportunity for Malawians to tap into the opportunities available in these sectors.

Kawale further says ATM Promotion Week will bring together different stakeholders like financiers, seed, fertilizer and machinery suppliers including off-takers. The minister said the initiative will help the country increase its production and resilience to climate shocks.

“Our expectation is that at the end of the week every participant will go back and use the knowledge that they will receive. By implementing or using the technologies that will be on display, we will have more yields and increase our exports to foreign markets in turn generating more forex,” says Kawale.

In her remarks, Minister of Mining, Monica Chang’anamuno, says during the ATM Promotion Week, Malawi will host the first ever Mining Investment Forum.

She says the week will open more investment opportunities in the country in sectors like energy and logistics.

Chang’anamumo has since applauded the President for introducing the ATM strategy which she says will transform the country’s economy.

“We are hoping that many people are going to start businesses. The week will also give them insights of the untapped opportunities in mining,” says Chang’anamuno.

The ATM week is expected to attract investors from within and outside the country.

The government launched the Agriculture Tourism and Mining (ATM) Strategy to enhance productivity in these sectors for the socioeconomic development of the country.
